Yesterday was a mouthful. And it may not have been an easy chew for us. Today’s Holy Nougat offers scope for hope.
8 “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’” Luke 13:8-9 NIV
God has not given up on us. We could be cold or lukewarm presently, but there is hope. Isn’t that wonderful news?! To think, in the parable the tree was like a male papaya tree; nothing was happening.
The property owner thought about destroying the tree, for it was neither ornamental nor productive. (Just like yesterday’s word). But before destroying the tree, the master consulted the gardener. And that’s when everything changed. The gardener prepared to give the tree special attention and even address possible causes of unproductivity before accepting defeat.
It is not too late for us yet.
For, with Jesus as the gardener, we are assured that He is committed to unearthing our issues; while providing the best support we need in the moment. It is definitely not too late!
Perhaps the only question is, are we open to His ministrations? Aeration and fertilizer may result in partial exposure for a while; at least till the issue is resolved. For some of us, we want Jesus to fix our issues, without actually changing anv part of our old nature. And that doesn’t make any sense. For yielding to Christ first requires us to let go of everything.
Again, it’s not too late
May the Spirit of the Gardener be allowed access to our roots;affording us scope for growth and productivity.
