Nougat 25

Published on

Hi there

How are you faring? Hopefully you are coping with the new normal. I pray peace and security in Christ Jesus through this storm for each of us.

You know, sometimes i am convinced that a passage I’m reading is exactly about me – my life, my challenges, my concerns and blessings. Consider today’s Holy Nougat for example, the first bit could easily have been me; except that many times I’ve succumbed to sleep:

“Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.” Luke 9:32 NRSV

Now I don’t know about you all, but I have genuinely had moments when I sense God is up to something; but sleep, or the lure of fb, books, anything else weighs me down. Unfortunately, there are times when I break under the weight of distraction and I fail to experience God’s glory.

The ’joy’ of this new season is that it offers us an opportunity to slow down and take stock of what is truly important. Yes, the times are serious and the spirits of fear and hyperbole seem to have dominated the world like the ‘prince of Persia’ (which intercepted God’s angel and engaged the angel in battle before being overthrown (see Daniel 9)). But we KNOW that our God is greater and our God is faithful.

And we also know that God often speaks when we are ready to listen. Shall we really allow distractions get in the way of our precious time with God? Shall we miss an opportunity to hear from God or see God’s glory because we are weighted down with sleep (whatever the sleep may be)?

May we be gifted with wakefulness in the spirit, so that we can understand the times for ourselves, by God’s mighty power.

I believe God is calling each of us individually today – question is; Are we listening?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
