Nougat 25

Hi

Have you ever stopped to think that we are often our own worst enemy? Especially in relation to our speech – ie what we say about ourselves? If we are among those self-denigrators; something ought to give and today’s Holy Nougat may help:

We demolish arguments and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4b-5 CSB

To demolish is to destroy beyond repair or even recognition; you know, like some large ball and chain combos used to tear down walls in old houses, offices or even warehouses. So if we Demolish an argument; we have Zero intention of revisiting it – it would have crumbled under the power of God’s Spirit.

Have we demolished the statements that would contradict God’s Word?

What have we been speaking about ourselves that completely contradicts what God has said about us?

Is it time to stand on the Word of God and speak life, healing, wholeness and love?

Are there some ‘I can’ts’ that need to be converted to ‘I can Do All things through Christ Who strengthens me’?

And yes, I am aware that sometimes we are simply parroting what others have told us about ourselves. The parents or teachers who tried to convince us that we will account to nothing; the bank or mortgage agency that denies is the loan because we don’t qualify; the classmate, friend or family member whose insecurity results in statements intended to hurt. But we don’t have to buy into those lies.

We counter those statements with what God tells us about ourselves – we are princes and princesses (if we’re children of the Most High, yup); so we are Good for Something. We are Blessed (by God to bless others), so we are not bound by the curse of the enemy. We are More than Conquerors in Christ, so we cannot be failures. Yes we may fail at something; but that does Not make us failures. We are the Bride of Christ (somebody wants us and is preparing a place for us), so we are not permanently homeless, broke or dispossessed. We are loved by Christ – Who died for Us – so we deserve to be treated as though we are precious and special. We don’t/didn’t Earn Abuse or slurs hurled at us by others. And because we Are Loved, we Are capable of giving and receiving Love.

Those are some of the ways we can begin to demolish the thoughts that try to tell us What or Who we are. Now let’s be mindful, a building usually doesn’t crumble at the first go. We may have to systematically counter those arguments again and again and again and again … until our minds catch up with God’s Word and we believe beyond the shadow of a doubt What God is telling us about ourselves.

We may fail at a few things – that doesn’t make us failures – we try again, or try something else.

We might lose a job – or two – we might need to requalify or try somewhere else; it doesn’t label us as Worthless.

We might have a broken heart once or twice – it may mean we’ve been kissing frogs, our prince/princess will come – we don’t have to write off the possibility of relationships for our lives.

We might fall spiritually; but we serve a God Who specializes in Second, Third and Multiple chances – we don’t have to beat ourselves up and write ourselves off as permanent sinners!

One thought at a time until the thought is vanquished or demolished.

Today let’s see ourselves as Christ sees us; and love ourselves and others as we are loved.

God bless you and have an awesome weekend.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
