Nougat 25

We have probably been around persons who claim to have mind reading skills from time to time. On such occasions, they might not claim to be Christian; but the fact of their acts may result in suspicion about those who operate with the gifting of Word of Knowledge by God’s Spirit. Today’s Holy Nougat offers clarity on how the gift can operate in context.

“To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.”

1 Corinthians 12:8 NLT

“Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.”

Acts of the Apostles 5:3 NLT

In today’s Holy Nougat, we find Peter receiving a ‘Word of Knowledge’ about Ananias’ attempt to defraud and deceive. Whereas one might be concerned about how the matter was resolved, one cannot escape the fact that Peter must have gotten information from someone. That someone was God’s Spirit.

We note that this knowledge was time sensitive – it was for a specific moment. In receiving the knowledge about Ananias in that moment and acting on it right away; those gathered had NO doubt about the Source of information. Peter had not left the room. It was proof that God’s Spirit was with Peter.

In another instance, we read of Elisha telling his king the exact spots that the King of Aram had set ambushes during war. Upon investigation the Aramean king discovered that Elisha stayed at home, his home in Israel and knew their plans and exact location every time! (2 Kings 6). One might say that too was a Word of Knowledge. And of course, each time we’re told Jesus knew someone’s thoughts or their situation and responded as if it were commonplace; that would translate to a Word of Knowledge on our human plane.

These several examples hopefully demonstrate that spiritual Word of Knowledge varies in scope. It is not only for reproof, but also for rescue and even restoration. And those are but three examples. And as previously mentioned, it is for specific moments, that strengthens (or even protects) the body of Christ. As far as I am aware, we cannot turn it on and off at will, it is not the gift of Prophecy.
