Are we ready to receive God’s sign? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Immanuel – God with us. With us since the beginning and with us now. With us in the Valley of Shadows and up there with us on the mountain top. With us from conception and having conquered death, with us at the last breath.

With us when we’re plagued with panic, grief and doubt. With us when our Faith is anchored in Him.

That was what Ahaz learned literally and figuratively. For Isaiah’s prophecy was not just for the distant, post-Ahaz future. It was also an assurance that God was with Ahaz. And it also served as a reminder that God was also keeping God’s promises to Adam and Eve.

This was God’s sign to Ahaz. Remember Ahaz failed to request a sign from God; despite God’s instructions to him? In spite of that, God graciously offered Ahaz proof – for present past and future reference- that God IS with us. And that’s a message God still shares today. Hopefully we aren’t so far removed from God that we are afraid to seek God’s face in times of trouble.

Immanuel – thank You for being with us in everything. Thanks for opting for the humiliation of the cross, for all our sakes. Happy birthday and thanks for Your plan to bring us literally to You soon. Amen
