Nougat 25

Yesterday we spoke of Jesus as the Gate of Adonai, and of Righteousness. Today’s Holy Nougat continues with life in Adonai.

“It is better to take refuge in Adonai than to trust in man.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭118:8‬ ‭TLV‬‬

There’s a Jamaican proverb which says, “when trouble ketch man, pikney shut fit im”, which means that that which would be an impossible or overlooked solution becomes beneficial. And while that could allude to God doing the impossible in our lives; it could also reflect our tendency to seek the support and advice from the wrong people.

If that’s the case, we really ought to take note of the wisdom the nougat presents – don’t rush to people during our trials. I suspect many of us have a ‘horror story’ of the impact of seeking assistance from people. In some cases, we sought advice from others to the exclusion of God. We probably neglected to listen to God’s Spirit and did our own thing; then wonder why things have gone wrong.

In other instances, we may have taken the confidence of someone about our lives and plans, only to discover that we have shared our situation with Loose-Lipped Lippy. And that which was intended to be a secret becomes public knowledge.

But there’s a friend; we have a friend that sticks closer than a brother! When we run into Adonai, we know that God’s got us covered. For as the One Who created each of us surely knows exactly what we need and how to fix it.

When we abide IN Adonai we actually establish a first line of defense against anything that comes at us. For with Adonai being our refuge; we know that defense (ie the weapons of attack and warfare in general) is secure. For while our weapons to address any issue may be blunt; the fact that they become sturdy and effective IN Adonai to destroy enemy strongholds means that Adonai has the most superior weapons.

Additionally, we also realize that a refuge also provides all the nourishment needed if/when under siege. And, with the earth being the Lord’s and all it entails; we are assured that Adonai has everything we need when we’re hunkered down. This may also be a sticking point with others who may get weary of helping. Adonai never gets weary of us.

And we have the assurance that whatever is hidden in Adonai cannot be revealed until and unless God said so. This is the One Who shuts doors no one can open, and opens doors nobody can shut. That’s the blessing of Adonai, our Refuge

This is not to say God can’t or won’t send a human to assist us. For both angels and humans are subject to God. We turn to our Refuge firstly and heed the directive provided. Then, IF we are sent to someone, we can make a move. Until then, we stay within the shelter of the Almighty.
