Have you ever thought about God’s God-ness? As a god, YHWH ought to be so distant from us and unreachable, but we have forever access to God. Today’s Holy Nougat offers an explanation.

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Within the layout of the Jewish temple is the room where the High Priest is able to communicate directly with God on behalf of the people. It is called the Holy of Holies. It’s worth noting that although the High Priest had permission to enter; no one else did. So the average person did not have direct access to God. So none of us could speak with God about anything beyond community prayer. That changed through the Resurrection.

We know that through Jesus Christ, we can speak directly with God. For, Jesus is not only God, He is also our intermediary for God’s presence. We have access to the grace, favour and even the blessings of God manifested in Jesus Christ. There’s truly no need for a High Priest to speak on our behalf.

A quick mental visit to Jesus’ patterning of prayer reminds us that Jesus prayed everywhere. The temple was more about instruction and fellowship. Jesus even recommended that we go to secret places to pray, so our entry in the Holy of Holies is not about being seen, but basking in the presence of God’s Spirit. Thus, in one sense, the location of the temple has shifted. When we accept Jesus Christ as Savior, we invite Jesus to live within us and our bodies become temples for the presence of God’s Spirit to dwell. It is no longer obligatory for us to wait until we can get to the physical structure for High Priestly representation when we sin. We can be in God’s presence with a simple cry.

With that assurance, when we go to Jesus with our concerns, He fully gets us. We don’t have to hope Jesus understands, He does. Hence our boldness. Because of our relationship with Jesus, we have no cause to worry when we enter the Holy of Holies weekly, daily or perhaps more frequently. It’s 24-hour access! All the time. Any time! And if we seek Him now, we’re right on time. Best of all – He’s waiting to hear from us.

Let’s go!

May all we seek be found in Christ
