We often played dodgeball (aka citings) in my growing years. Unfortunately, I was hopelessly and helplessly uncoordinated. Completely.
But, I still thought I could offer something to the team. Not.
More often than not, I was selected last and if there were uneven players; I became ‘boatie pon two side’! It was not quite a fun space though it was kinda nice to be guaranteed a play on either team. Problem was, neither team truly benefited from my playing; nor did I ever hone my coordination skills.
The thing is, we run the risk of becoming spiritually uncoordinated when we insist on playing ‘boatie pon two side’. For; it is hard to satisfactorily please God and the devil at the same time. Eventually, we will favor one over the other; or simply occupy space and time. And there lies the trouble, for no one likes working with the unproductive.
In today’s Holy Nougat, that’s even worse to God than being cold. I think it’s resulting from us thinking we’re actually good with God, when all we do is warm benches/pews and give occasional lip service to living our faith.

Is it possible for us to be aware that we are lukewarm in the faith? I think so. When we become fixated with ritual rather than righteousness and actual worship; when our prayer life is more rote than substance; when we are preoccupied with ‘stuff’ and not God’s will; when we kinda have a yearning for more but pride stops us from reaching out to God for help; when we get uncomfortable with our prayer time and are challenged by spending time with the Word; when we’re just as easily mistook for a ‘worlian’ than one seeking God’s face … just maybe lukewarm is setting in (trust me I been there and escaped!).
If you are stuck in lukewarm, it might be helpful to ask God to help you figure where it devolved into that state. Be open to God’s restoring Fire; and work on getting even closer to Jesus than ever before.
May God’s grace take us past lukewarm and complacency into the fullness of all we can be in Christ. And even in the face of temptation, pull us back into active faith.
