Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Proverbs 12:25 NLT
Did you know that worry is related to meditation? When we meditate, our minds are focused on a word or object. When we worry, we fix our minds around an issue, focusing on the impossibility of shifting things around.
That also suggests that when we worry, the situation is controlling us. But, if we hand the situation over to The One who is able to keep us, then the balance of control shifts a wee bit. Now THAT’S a monumental task!
I believe that we all have moments of worry and anxiety. It comes with the territory of being human. But, there comes a point when, consciously or subconsciously, we recognize that our attention is fixed on the wrong Source. Remember when the disciples got caught in a massive storm and the boat was just about to capsize? They couldn’t swim, death seemed certain.
All their energies were focused on remaining in the boat and staying alive that they forgot the Game Changer was in the boat with them. Upon remembering, their focus shifted … Jesus, where are you, do you realize our predicament? The onus was now on Jesus to change things or at least offer an alternate perspective.
Game changed!
We might not feel powerful enough to be game changers (and to some extent, we aren’t). But, in the midst of our life storms, right there when we’re trying to find the pieces of our new normal, we have the power to transform our perspective. We can invite the Game Changer to make the difference. And all that might require is one prayer breathed from a sincere heart out loud or in the silence.
That makes a critical difference. It reminds us Jesus is in the boat.

May our work week be filled with the memory of the Game Changer’s desire to transform our worries into joy.
