I tell you, it’s the little things. Focusing on the minor and failing to see that we’re missing the major. One of the quickest tricks we fall for … just like the disciples in today’s Holy Nougat™️

“Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’But among you it will be different.

Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.” Luke‬ ‭22:24-27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There is embedded in every human heart, the desire for greatness. A desire to be recognized and affirmed for some thing we have done/been. Or, at least, that’s how feels most of the time. And, for the most part, it is a good desire. But when it overwhelms our every thought and action, that’s when trouble set in.

Unlike Jesus’ pre-ascension days on earth; when we give to others in need, it is often accompanied by pictures of our good deeds being uploaded to some social media network or other. Or, we make a big production of giving or serving that the recipient KNOWS that they ought to be visibly grateful.

Yet Jesus asks that we do something different in service. Although our call is To Service, it is not intended to be about our own aggrandizement. In fact, Jesus said that leadership is best demonstrated in our willingness to do the most humiliating tasks. Not always easy, even for publicity or a photo op.

He subverts the idea of what servitude is; for Jesus sees that as the real proof of greatness. Oftentimes, it is a thankless task. For, in most places that run efficiently, the servers/servants are invisible. And we often take them for granted.

Our challenge from God today, should we choose, is to look beyond the task to the blessings that comes from serving as an act of worship; and share that blessing by A. thanking those who serve (including our helpers, janitors, etc)

B. demonstrate Christ’s brand of leadership by choosing to serve

May all we seek be found in Christ
