Nougat 24

Are you going through a rough patch? I know one or two people who are, and others who are coming out. How do/did you encourage your soul? It is said that the beautiful hymn, ‘It is well with my soul’ was written in such a patch. Could the writer, can we believers find nybbles to encourage us in today’s Holy Nougat?

“After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Now this is what I call Radical Faith. These two blind men would only have heard of what Jesus did for others. Their faith in Jesus’ capacity was rooted in the conviction that the rumors abounding about Jesus were true. Thus, while others were marveling about the resurrection miracle, they were making their way to the place Jesus was staying.

(Now, it may be that the men were convinced by the ongoing removal of persons from the ‘unclean community’. They were all outcasts, once they presented with terminal and incurable illnesses. Each time someone was healed and thus released back into community it would probably be cause for intense discussion in the community. Who knows?)

What we do know is, having arrived at the house where Jesus was staying, these two men insisted on being heard. No matter that Jesus might have been tired from healing the girl and another woman, they pressed forward.

Siblings, I believe that this is a critical key for us in times of struggle, illness or pain. We have to believe the report of those who have experienced God’s grace; even if we don’t think we have personally experienced it in our lives. In our seasons of blindness, we cry out to Jesus, Son of David, Son of the Living God to have mercy on us!

And when asked the obvious question, respond boldly (with confidence ‘borrowed’ from God’s Word): Yes Lord, I know you can heal my situation. If you are alone, not to worry, God’s Spirit is good company. Go ahead and seek God’s healing grace in Jesus name! I sincerely pray God’s blessings for each of us as we receive our healing grace in this season, in Jesus name amen!

May all we seek be found in Christ
