Nougat 24

Have we ever considered that the developmental patterns of a person includes their spiritual development and growth also? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat

‭Psalms 51:6 NIV‬

[6] Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.

Even in the Womb

As an educator in training some twenty plus years ago, I had to learn and apply the varied theories of child development. Knowing what was expected behaviors for children helped to determine whether they were meeting targets or lagging behind. Of course, it was also interesting to self examine, as we often realized that there were goals we missed or excelled at along the way.

Not all development theorists were focused on formal education. In fact, I vaguely recall the focus being placed on other things like emotional development. One theorist even suggested that we are stuck at different points until a traumatic memory is removed or a need is satisfied.

What I don’t recall learning, neither at seminary nor in teachers’ college, was this profound truth revealed in our Nougat. Development, whether emotional, educational, or spiritual, begins on the womb. We all know it at an intrinsic level, but we don’t always process it. There are stories of parents speaking to fetuses and the child demonstrating knowledge at birth, and we’re surprised.

Yet, several thousands of years ago, prior to Piaget, Ericsson, or the others, the psalmist clearly knew that learning begins in the womb. What would we have done differently if we realized the profound implications of communicating to our children in the womb? Those of us who are expecting a child, or will be in the future, can start doing so now. We can share spiritual truths before birth by reading to them or praying with them intentionally.

Is it feasible that we start much closer to God’s heart at birth and are now trying to attain such wondrous closeness? Lord, please reveal some of the secrets You taught us when we were in the womb.
