In one breath, the dad is stating his prayer request explicitly; and in the next, he articulates his doubts. Isn’t that just like us! Far too often we invite the Lord into our situations, only to pick it up once again.
Perhaps it is that when we come face with our own mortality, or more critically, the mortality of our loved ones; we forget the truly awesome majesty and power that is vested in the personhood of Christ our Saviour.
But let’s not get caught up in the minor details. For the father DID go before Jesus. And he DID articulate his son’s reality. And he DID clarify his real concern TO Jesus. That’s honesty in it’s fullness. And I suspect that God much prefers our honest articulated doubts than our platitudes which reduces God to an idol among many rather than God Almighty.
Do we dare reevaluate the life and death situations in our lives and return same to our God who never sleeps? Or perhaps we boldly declare God’s intervention at the crossroads of our crises.
The timing is right, God bids us come, let’s get going …
