In the middle of a trying moment Jesus chooses to pause and ignore the crowd. We may never be entirely sure about the details, but the act of writing in the sand was really important. Jesus resumed this action after being interrupted by the repeated scoffing of the naysayers around him.
Perhaps he was venting – counting to 10 before responding to the pettiness. Maybe he was recording sins in the sand rather than concrete so they would easily ‘wash away’.
But without a doubt, he was ignoring the detractors.
A very viable option when we’re faced with similar circumstances.
Note to self … Don’t lose one’s Kool or ones temper. Get creative. Find an outlet for frustration and ignore the detractors. In Christ
