Hello

How are you? In just under two hours, Gatlin and Bolt will face off once again to determine who is the fastest man in the world (100m finals at the world games). I often wonder why they needed to know these things originally. What competition would you establish if you were to address some important life issue?

Here’s today’s nougat

Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the laws of Christ. Galatians 6.2

But in all reading of the Gospels, there is no mention of Jesus establishing a law about burdens. However, Jesus is very clear in insisting that we love each other. He cited it as the second greatest commandment in Matthew 22:39-42 and states it as a new commandment in John 13:34 Then, he even adds a caveat – we are his friends if we fulfill his commandments.

Jesus actionizes (i.e. activates) this by bearing our sins at Calvary. It is the willingness to travail with, which makes the difference. Not the good times television camera rolling type of love; but the mind that hurts, #risksbetrayalandgoesbackformore kind of burden-bearing. The kind that tempts me to ask Jesus if he really sent me. No strings. Simply fulfilling God’s law.

It sure isn’t easy and I’m still working on it.

Burden bearing as actionized love. Wow!

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
