Nougat 23

Isn’t it so very ironic that many people, including believers, are challenged by the thought of God’s Spirit at work in, with, and through us; yet they (some of us even) have no issue with fortune telling, divination, or horoscopes? Have we lost a sense of God’s Spirit.? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat

‭John 15:26 NIV‬

[26] “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

Heaven-Sent Spirit

It is true, though.

We think there’s nothing wrong with fairy tales: goblins, elves, witches, fairies, pixies, and the like. Some of us are avid fans of Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc., and may even support the idea of UFOs. Yet despite our open affiliation with such, many scoff at the persona and work of God’s Spirit. I’m not sure why or how, but it happens.

I think also about our fixation with knowing and understanding the future in advance. So much so that people who question the existence of God’s Spirit will intentionally visit mediums, purchase 8- balls (i.e., the magic 8 ball ‘toy’), or ouija boards. All with the aim of getting a glimpse of the future. It doesn’t add up to me.

Our Nougat affirms that the Spirit sent to us by Jesus is sent from ‘the Father’, that is, God. I concur that in order to accept that premise, one must operate in faith. But believing in those others is a matter of faith also. So, is it that we only are giving lip service to all those other creatures’ existence? I can see us arguing that those are fantasy or make-believe; but there are people who affirm such as real but deny God’s Spirit.

If we believe in God, namely YHWH, Creator of heaven and earth, the galaxies and beyond, our belief ought to extend to the existence of the Trinity. It is fundamental to our faith. An earlier Nougat reminded us of the presence of God’s Spirit in the Creation process. Genesis 1.2 affirms that God’s pneuma (wind or spirit) hovered or blew over the waters as God spoke light over the darkness at the dawn of Creation. (Jesus, the Word of God, was also present – but not in human form).

This very same Spirit was outpoured on believers at that first fruit spiritual Pentecost. This same Spirit is at work with and within us in this created world today. Having been present at Creation and having not left during the schism instigated by the enemy of our souls; God’s Spirit is the real deal. Not make-believe.

I dare suggest that it follows, since God’s Spirit is the real deal, we must expect God’s Spirit to carry God’s nature, bear witness to Jesus, and manage Time so that present, past and future work together for our good.
