Nougat 23

Truth is often a rare commodity these days. When integrity is under threat, many are inclined to do away with truth, or we stick to half truths. Yet, we all expect (or insist on receiving) the truth from the other, especially when the other is an opponent in business or politics. Oh, the double standards!

As people of Faith, we’re called to a different standard … because God’s Spirit lives in us, and God’s Spirit is also known as the Spirit of Truth. In navigating life’s spaces, might we find it beneficial to engage God’s standards of truth in our lives? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat

John 16:13 NLT

[13] When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

What God’s Spirit has Heard

It seems almost superfluous to think about what God’s Spirit has heard until we need God’s good counsel. At that time, especially if we’re faced with many voices promoting contradictory messages, we need discernment or clarity for life’s journeys (a new season of our lives or wisdom along the way). Hence, the knowledge that God’s Spirit reveals information from Source is perhaps very comforting in such moments.

To illustrate this further, I offer a memory …

Two children had a small tiff. During the recess, one was busy backbiting the other to mutual friends, in an attempt to win the friends to their side. No one was responding. After about 5 minutes of tirade, the one spewing the accusations finally figured that the person was there and heard everything! There was no need for anyone to gossip … the truth was revealed.

There are times when God’s Spirit allows us to know things in a similar manner. Information is brought to us that we’d not normally have access to. We then require God’s wisdom to determine how to deal with the direct revelation. At other times, the truth may be revealed through prophecy, or that still, small voice telling us what we need to know and what we’re expected to do.

-Has God’s Spirit sought to reveal Truth to us recently?

– What made us recognize the Truth?

– If yes, how did we receive the message?

Application

In addition to being recipients of God’s Truth, it may also be that we’re called to testify of God’s truth. For we often receive revelations to fulfil God’s specific purposes. It means then that when we receive divine revelations, we ought to ask God for guidance on the next step. Perhaps even how to treat the knowledge we receive.

There are some who love to manipulate or distort truth for their own devices. Might I propose that we guard God’s truth jealously, even from ourselves? We may even be required to defend God’s Truth, like Peter did to the crowds after Pentecost (see Acts 1, 2). Should that be the case, may we be open to God’s guiding revelations in all we do and say.

Assignment

– Pray for a discerning ear to hear God’s Spirit today.

– Try to identify at least one moment when God’s Spirit is revealing a profound truth to our spirits.
