Blessings. Recently I was reading an article which saw me racing to verify my ‘facts’. The result is today’s Holy Nougat
“And thou shalt put the mercy-seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.” Exodus 25:21 ASV
This is news headlines material; can you just see it?
Mercy Superimposed Over Law
Yup! You read that right. The instructions from Hod handed down to the prophet and freedom fighter Moses ben Amram reveals that it is indeed correct; YHWH gave specific instructions about the location of the Mercy Seat, which has been placed ATOP The Ark of the Covenant. This has spectacular implications for both Jews and Gentiles alike, as it assures us that YHWH (also referred to as El Elyon) clearly intended that each of us has access to Mercy when we violate God’s Law!
Sources close to the Prophet indicate that he spent little over a month closeted upon the Holy mountain in secret conferences with Ej Elton, the Most High God, before returning with the Laws and clear directives for the Holy items.
Considering the vastness of the Law which provides insight on how the children of Israel ought to live, it is no wonder that many focus on God’s intractability rather than God’s love. Yet even the psalms recognize the extent of God’s mercy. Thus, psalm 136 utlises the repetition device in the chanted refrain ‘God’s loving kindness lasts forever’
In later years, followers of Christ (those who acknowledge Jesus as God’s own Son and Savior of the world) suggests that Mercy was granted priority over Grace through Christ’s death and resurrection. This, some contend, corroborated Christ’s declaration that He came to fulfil the Law in His famous ‘Sermon on the Mount’ speech.
One current implication critical for those of us who follow Christ, is that Mercy being superimposed over Grace affords us access time and again to forgiveness when we sin. We don’t then seek to intentionally violate Gods commands but, when we sin, we are assured of grace and forgiveness!
With that, there’s only one course of action remaining – thanksgiving and confession!
