Nougat 23

Greetings

Some time ago I recall watching a documentary which suggested that amid the crowd of baby bears on the island in the Arctic, the mama polar bear hears her youngun. The clip showed the space teaming with bears; young and old. But when the baby cried, only one mama moved. Today’s Holy Nougat paints a similar picture.

“I cried out to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy mountain.” Interlude

Psalms 3:4 NLT

Ironically, this image of God presents God as hearing from an even further distance. For, when we cry out; it is usually from our mortal space on earth or when we find ourselves in the depths of hell. Yet, God’s hearing is so attuned that God not only hears, but answers.

Amazing

This is an assurance that we are never so far from God’s presence for God to respond. What is not revealed is the nature of God’s response. And while that may seem whimsical or arbitrary from our perspective; we recognize that God’s purpose is beyond our understanding. We usually don’t have a full grasp on it. Not at all.

What we may wish to do when in trouble is to listen even as we cry out to God. For sometimes God answers in the stillness and we must strain to hear. Other times God may opt to speak via a messenger (even to confirm that which God has already declared) or God may even send the answers directly – ie, rescue isn’t without sending word; whisk us away or create a door/stream/window which meets our needs. God may even say ‘Wait’ or ‘No’; and if that wasn’t our expectation; we might not ‘hear’ God’s answer.

Does that mean we don’t cry out? Certainly not! It does mean that we call out to God; with the assurance that like a mama bear, God hears us and will answer us when we pray.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
