“Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18 NRSV
You know, hindsight is 20:20 (we can see clearly AFTER an event, not usually before); so it’s easy to hear the legitimacy of Mary’s status. She was pregnant – but not the normal way. In a world of in-vitro fertilization, surrogacy and fertility drugs, the birth of Jesus might not have generated wonder. But in those days, everyone would be very familiar with the ‘circumstances’ surrounding Jesus’ birth and may even have added their own spin to the facts.
How do you respond to the fact that a mere human actually conceived supernaturally? And not from a UFO or science; but by God’s own Spirit? It’s a lot to absorb.
So then, how do we respond to our God, Whose Love manifested in the supersized Creative miracle of Self-diminishing to become like us experientially? This is proportionally opposite to the original Creative process of making us (humanity) as God’s own ‘Mini-Me’! That’s absolutely awesome and amazing.
