Hi

In these somewhat uncertain times, many of us would love to hear from the Lord. I believe that God is speaking today, just as God spoke to the saints of old (both women and men). Should we wonder how God speaks, consider today’s Holy Nougat™️

“And the Lord stood beside him and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring … Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”” Genesis‬ ‭28:13, 15‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Isn’t it interesting to note that to some degree, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob got the same promise – of land for them and the future generations?! Yet, the promises were intrinsically different; Abram was invited to leave the land he had known for all/most of his life; Isaac needed to stay put and Jacob received confirmation that it was so in a dream. Genesis 11 hints at the invitation being given to Terah, but he didn’t finish the journey. Although the promise was specific to the recipient, it was a promise for the entire lineage. Four individuals; one promise. Four generations, and God honored the plan; regardless of Terah not taking God’s promises seriously; Abram and Sarai’s fertility issues; Isaac’s misunderstandings regarding God’s purpose; and Jacob’s status as a fugitive (I guess Moses could relate).

God had a plan for Moses and it also involved the same land God had promised his forefathers. Except this time, Moses was taking the entire family (so large, they’d become a nation) back to the land of the Promise. God’s promise. A promise with which Moses would have been familiarized during his time with his birth parents. A promise that would probably have kept him going each time someone commented on his outsider status in pharaoh’s household.

Have you been feeling like an outsider lately? What promise has God given to you recently? Is there a spiritual legacy that seems to have been misplaced, aborted, or abandoned by your kin? Has God been sparking your thoughts to revisit a generational promise? Is It time to step out in faith in the promises God has revealed to you?

Jacob put his confidence in the faith of his mother and the stories that must have been passed through the ages. He dared to dream literally and figuratively. God honored his faith. God gave Jacob a dream and fulfilled it. In that wise, God’s way of operations is the same – El Elohim remains constant. Whether in a command; advice, or through the reassurance of a dream, our God continues to speak.

The question is; are we hearing?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
