How’s our listening going? Have you ever considered today’s Holy Nougat
“You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger;”. James 1:19 NRSV
Two ears
One mouth
Yet many of us act as if it’s two lips, one mouth, no ears (we talk from both sides of our lips, and scarcely listen). As for anger … we let rip whenever. The thing is, that does no one any good; neither does it honor God.
When we take time to listen, we may hear what God has to say on a matter … as God’s voice ought to be the last word. And when God weighs in, anger might not be our first recourse. Or, we might choose to vent to God, and anger’s edge is removed. Of course, if God gets me last word, we will find that we are slower to speak, and that our response has a wisdom element to it.
So, just for today, can we try listening, then listening to God before responding in any situation? It could be a dealbreaker.
