Nougat 22

Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to think about the task God has set before us. Can we resonate?

“He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal.”” Luke‬ ‭22:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There’s no mention of Jesus pausing to negotiate room rental for the week of His trials and crucifixion. In fact, like His return, the day and time were known to no one; including those plotting to kill Jesus. But the room was ready. The place was already prepared. How? Why?

My theory is that God had long before prepared the heart of the homeowner and s/he was obedient to God’s direction. Not only was the room ready but the person knew what to expect as confirmation that it was time.

I digress for a moment to emphasize what readiness meant. In those days, we do not know of indoor plumbing; but we may recall that it seems to have been common practice for pitchers of water for basic ablutions (hands,feet, face) to be offered to guests. And by our lowest calculations, that would be thirteen persons. Thirteen people to be washed; thirteen places at table; and food to satisfy the hunger of thirteen men. All to be prepared for when God said so!

And it was ready.

Would we have accepted God’s invitation back then? What have we been invited by God to do Now that that Feast is over? If it seems impossible – it probably is; if we try outside of God’s will. But with Christ, the impossible becomes possible – in His time.

The homeowner was ready when the disciples arrived. There is no record of mumbling, asking for extra time or any such thing. Have we begun the task Jesus has set before us; whatever it is? If Jesus sent someone to say, ‘it’s time’; would we be ready?
