Today’s Holy Nougat offers us the real deal on Love

“Real love isn’t our love for God, but his love for us. God sent his Son to be the sacrifice by which our sins are forgiven.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭CEV‬‬

Even when we celebrate His life, we are conscious of His Death. In fact, there’s a sense in which we celebrate His death. I know, I know, his death has zero value or meaning outside of His Resurrection. Yet, it is worth resting with His death for a while.

In the chronicling God’s love for humanity, the Bible recounts only a few resurrection stories (easily under 10). Among them, 3 are attributed to Jesus, 2 are mentioned in Acts (of the Apostles), and the rest, if I am not mistaken, are in the Hebrew Bible. Despite their phenomenal nature, each of those resurrections were other-effected ie no one self-resurrected. Knowing that He was born to die gave Jesus pause: Abba, if it is possible, allow me to bypass this road (see Matthew 26:39; Luke 22:42). And what a torturous death it was! You know how bad Jesus’ situation was when someone was commandeered to shoulder the Cross. So while He might have focused on the Resurrection, the act of His death was a hurdle for Jesus to overcome.

And yet, He chose the way of Death.

In the face of such a painful end, Jesus opted for Death so we could Live.

So you and I can live

He was born to die. We celebrate the fact of His birth, conscious of His Love that gave us Life through His Death. Thank You Jesus!
