Nougat 22

So as believers, we recognize that faith-oriented fasts involve praying. Outside of that, fasting is a weight loss gimmick. Today’s Holy Nougat offers some initial ideas for rejection.

“But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When we Pray

For Jesus, prayer was more than just an obligatory act to an invisible god. It is a heartfelt conversation with God that can realize change. Because prayer has power to transform us, Jesus wanted His disciples to understand key facets of prayer.

Jesus’ words to the disciples invites us to think about our own attitudes towards prayer. When we pray, is it only in group settings, or do we consider personal one-on-one time a priority? And what attribute of God’s character do we approach: Parent, Judge, Healer, Provider, or other? Matthew presents Jesus teaching us to connect with God as ‘Father’. As Father (Parent), all attributes of God are covered, except for nurturer. Thus we can approach God knowing that we will be heard.

Finally, the phrase ‘when we pray’ does not necessarily place limits on our prayer life. Rather, it offers us the opportunity to approach God again and again and again – as often as we wish. Because God is accessible by each of us, although God is holy. We can take advantage of this by chatting with God (praying) at any time and in any circumstance.

When we pray, we tap into God’s awesome power.
