Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.” 2 Corinthians 1:9 NLT
In another context it says we lay aside the the weights and look to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith. For, as our Creator, our brother, our friend, Jesus has the full story and loves us despite. Then, when we take full stock we realize that even with life’s disappointments, our only reliable source is God.
Not family. Not work. Not friends. Not political leaders. Not church. Not any dynamic, charismatic preaching. Not Nicqi Ashwood. Only God.
Now I’ve never seen God literally raise the dead for myself. But I benefit from Christ’s resurrection Daily! What joy! And when my callused, empty broken heart began to malfunction spiritually; the healing presence of God restored me. It probably hadn’t stopped working entirely; but a heart that doesn’t beat for God is as good as dead.
What about you? How has YOUR experience of God been? Have you got a resurrection story? What was the circumstance that said, I gotta stop relying on others? And did it turn you to Christ?
Friends, we live in extreme times where life changes literally in a heartbeat. A betrayal, death, debilitating illness, work life, studies, family dynamics … you name it; the variables can shift. And sometimes it’s not quite easy to think about relying on others, or even on God.
Some may even say that if God permitted our shifting circumstances, then God is unreliable. I think that is actually the easy and deceptive approach. For it denies God offering us sovereignty over our lives and actions AND suggests that we missed the presence of God in the moment.
So how about an experiment, for those of us who need to rekindle the spiritual flame. Let us rely on God for our everything and watch for the results!
