Hello
When the going gets unclear, the believer gets …? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.” John 21:3 NLT
Oh that liminal space! The no longer but not yet time when nothing fits. The old identity is no longer and the new one is not quite yet. The in between time of ‘thus says the Lord’ and ‘and it came to pass’. Not the easiest time zone to live in, and it sometimes feels like torture. Exciting. Frustrating. Challenging. Invigorating. Dare I say boring?
It was for Peter and several disciples. Jesus had risen. The ‘novelty’ had worn off. They didn’t really have a blueprint of the way forward and had probably forgotten about the gift called the Holy Spirit. What next? Fishing. It’s what they knew and it was ‘safe’. I don’t think they bargained for more nothingness!
How do we handle liminal moments? I wish I could say I have a handle on it. But I don’t. I’m probably the whiner you heard in the background, who’s complaining about everything and nothing. Or the one trying to negotiate with the Lord about the ‘what’s next Lord?’ also interpreted as ‘how long Lord will You forget me …?’ How about you?
Could it be that though we love God, we struggle with trusting God through the unknown? Hmmm
But what about seeing the space as a moment to regroup, reflect and renew as we wait upon the Lord for the What’s Next? To appreciate it as an opportunity for some much needed one on one with God, since we do have direct access? It doesn’t guarantee the answers we seek, but I suspect it’s better than catching naught!
Praying wisdom strength and blessings in our liminal spaces …
Good morning
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
