Nougat 22

Hi

I trust you are well. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.” 1 Peter 2:5 NLT

Recently I conversed with a colleague and friend who had overcome a season of tribulation. During the conversation I marveled at the love of God which brought the person back to life, when life seemed meaningless and broken.

God’s intervention was clear in the words of a preacher and I was struck by today’s Holy Nougat – We are LIVING STONES! Not the fanciful stone people in the Disney hit ‘Frozen ‘, but stones in the sense that our living experiences provide a foundation (and subsequent walls) for The Word to transform a life. For it is our resilience in adversity – or lack of it – that may connect with someone who is searching for the meaning of life. Who is parched for the outpouring of Living Water in a dry season.

I always think of living stones as limestone rocks or river stones but there is a flowering plant native to southern Africa, which basically carries two leaves which look like pebbles. Their name actually derives from the Greek for living stones. They love the sunlight, have an extended root system which hugs the ground, needs limited watering and go dormant annually before flowering.

So it ought to be with us – when life hits us, let’s hunker down in the Son-light, digging deeper into the soil of the Word before emerging renewed.

Living stones – the foundation for others to grow by, or the ones which remain close to the Source of its glory. In either case, may we all through Jesus Christ be part of the temple to which others attend and find respite from their trials.

Purged to restore. Tested to overcome. May God’s Sonlight rest upon us all, even in our seasons of dormancy.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
