Hello,
Today’s Holy Nougat™ is packed with nutrients and nuggets. Here’s a sample of what I imbibed.
“What is your request?” he asked. She replied, “In your Kingdom, please let my two sons sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.” Matthew 20:21 NLT
Let’s step aside from the obvious power petition of a mother for her sons for a minute, and seek to digest the context of the statement. This woman, the mother of two of Jesus disciples, had not only heard Jesus’ sermons about the kingdom of Heaven; she sincerely BELIEVED that Jesus’ kingdom was not of this world!
This nameless fan, was able to grasp a truth about The Truth that few who knew Him intimately as friends and disciples were willing to accept. She accepted His Authority, and, understanding the way of earthly governance, sought to help establish her sons in positions of influence.
Earthly Lesson: We ought always seek the for our children/loved ones. There’s nothing wrong with that, provided we approach it from a position of integrity.
Spiritual Point to Ponder: How many of us recognise the Authority inherent in the personhood of Jesus? Not only is He God enfleshed, Jesus is also the King of Kings. And we’re His subjects.
In a season where leaders are treated with scant regard, is there need for us to revisit our approach to Our Sovereign?
