Nougat 22

Published on

Hello

Living the godly Christ-like lifestyle is not always easy. Especially when we have been hurt by someone. For those of us who have unresolved issues, today’s Holy Nougat might be hard to swallow;

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Ephesians 4:32 NLT

Inasmuch as I am fully in agreement with the instructions; I am very conscious that in cases of abuse, the one preyed upon may be called to forgive time and time again. The same person. The same offense. With no hint of real repentance being demonstrated.

Do we stay in toxic places and risk our lives and wellbeing (as well as the lives of others)? Or do we walk away from the situation/space; never looking back? I don’t have the answer to that question; but I am convinced that a) it is easier to forgive while alive; b) forgiveness doesn’t require staying in a toxic relationship or space to be effective.

Additionally, we are first admonished to Be KIND to each other. To be tender-hearted; ie compassionate. Can that also be an invitation to mutual care? For tender hearts shouldn’t translate to selfishness or evil. Moreover, we each have to determine what our actions and reactions are to life’s ups and downs. And that is also determined by our relationship with Jesus Christ.

So, whether at study, work, play or otherwise; we are called to kindness and compassion. We are also called to forgiveness. As a Christ-styled lifestyle. Yup.

I’m still on the learning curve and by God’s strength it will be my lifestyle. Until then, I press to the mark; just like you.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
