Hi there
Have you ever pondered some of what Jesus promises? What’s your response? What’s your take on today’s Holy Nougat
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.” St. John 14:3 NIV
I guess we first have to decide whether Jesus actually made the promise; and if He meant what He said. Yes, you read it right. Because I believe that although we make many claims, our lives often tell a different story.
Let’s agree right now that we actually believe that Jesus made this promise. It wasn’t a typical Jewish covenant – no blood at that point; but an allusion to such. It was an ‘earnest’ the down payment on what was coming. Jesus was explaining part of the covenant – that His death would give us access to the place He would prepare for us. His BLOOD bought our access. It’s NOT our good works.
Nevertheless we still have to accept that there IS a Place which Jesus is preparing for us. In one sense, I would say it’s totally ready; but I hope that readiness influences Christ’s return … that we may join Jesus in that special place.
If this is what we believe; how are WE preparing for Christ’s return? My mind takes me to old fashioned engagements, where young ladies prepared Hope Chests and/or Bottom Drawers. While this is not necessarily the norm any more; I can only imagine us – the bride of Christ – preparing our spiritual Hope Chests-Bottom Drawers. May I encourage us to think about WHAT exactly we’d desire to put in the bottom drawer and to then take these virtues out and live them NOW. To be loving, patient, gentle, kind and even generous now while we wait; not later. To treat others as Christ treats us.
And most of all; if we truly believe; might we also please be inclined to share this good news with others; in word and deed; for Christ’s sake?!
Thanks for considering …
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
