Blessings my dears

I reread Jonah’s story recently and was startled by its relevance to our realities today. Although he operated in the prophetic, Jonah was abundantly clear about his biases and struggles. Can you see yourself (not someone you know) anywhere in Jonah’s story?

Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™

So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord ? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. Jonah 4:2 NLT

Is this your normal perception of God?

Wow!

Today’s bite may have the effect of choking some of us who are convinced that we – in being reverent – ought not complain to the Lord.

But it also affirms what a healthy relationship with God should include. Unlike several of us, Jonah

  • Recognises God as the One to whom he is ultimately accountable
  • Accepts his fallibility, even to the extent of choosing to walk away, to repent, to be upset
  • Enjoys intimacy which affords the ability to be genuinely honest before God … He doesn’t mince words or deny his feelings
  • Takes his complaints to God and not others

We do not condone some of Jonah’s choices, yet we see hidden patterns reflected in our own actions. What if we were to be as honest before our Lord? What if we felt secure enough in our relationship to express our fears and even our anger to God? What if …
