Hi
How’s our prayer life going? And why do we pray? Today’s Holy Nougat
offers food for thought
“Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!” Matthew 6:8 NLT
So why ask, we ask.
To build relationship; that’s what. To reduce the opportunities to take God for granted and To keep us humble
When we come into God’s presence, we are usually aware of God’s awe-full-ness. Truly, our God inspires awe. Yet, despite that, we are able to ‘climb into God’s lap’ and talk about anything. We relate as friends and as family. (Hopefully, we approach God for more than just grocery and gifts).
That’s relationship
For many of us, God is a cosmic Santa, Who keeps on gifting us. And God does keep gifting us – we are alive – and that’s essential for us to be here. Yet we often take those gifts for granted. We often forget to say thanks for the Giver for the auto-received gifts; how much more so if we had our every desire met before we even asked?
That’s appreciation of God’s generosity
Sometimes we get a big fat NO to our request. Or, sometimes God points out a flaw which needs addressing. (Of course, it helps if we are listening in this 2-way conversation). In any case, our requests are usually about what we can’t do for ourselves; and recognizing that God alone has the ability and capacity to do for us. Praying helps to remind us of that
That’s humility
So, let’s grumble less and keep praying some more. Hopefully as the frequency increases we’ll each grow closer to God in all facets of our lives.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
