Hi dear
There’s an old descriptive term from Jamaica for folks who consider themselves all-powerful; it’s “bull buck and duppy conqueror”. Since a duppy is a ghost (jumbie); I’m presuming that the person is scared of nothing at all and of no one. And when such a person is enraged, ‘woe betide!’
Imagine Laban being one such person. He was so hard that Jacob disappeared in secret, and his (Laban’s) servants waited THREE days to tell him. Despite the three days lead, Laban managed to catch up with Jacob and he was bursting.
Until nightfall. Today’s Holy Nougat explains why
“But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, “Watch yourself—lest you say anything to Jacob, good or bad.”” Genesis 31:24 TLV
I know, I know; most of us don’t believe that God speaks to us through dreams anymore (but some of us buy dream books and other such paraphernalia, like horoscopes). But that was one of the most reported media of communication between YHWH and humans in those days; especially when they didn’t have a pre-existing relationship.
And YHWH chose to have that conversation with Mr Bull buck himself – Laban. Laban was duly warned; and was smart enough to take heed.
Though the reflection centres around Laban; it is more about us than him. For, it seems that no matter how long we may have to suffer, there comes a point where YHWH has the final say. It could be that it happens when we finally yield; it could be that our oppressor has to be in a particular mindset – I have NO idea. But when YHWH says, ‘Enough!’, that’s what it is.

Remember Job; YHWH told the devil; do whatever BUT … keep him alive! In Psalm 66, we’re told that men are allowed to walk over our backs But YHWH brings us out into abundance!
So, if we’re under the yoke of oppression; if we’ve managed to overcome and it seems we’re being pursued by our own personal Bull buck; stand still and watch God work. For the very same YHWH Who put Laban in his place, is the same God (YHWH) Who is with us now!
And remember, Psalm 110 assures that God, Adonai, can choose to make our enemies our footstools. So whether we’re beset or surrounded, whether we feel overwhelmed by life under coronavirus; I pray we remember that Our God can say the word; and even the Bull buck and duppy conqueror MUST obey!
Could it be time to ask God to intervene in our situations?
Hmmm
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
