How far does one go when one is unaware of the Truth? Probably too far, I suppose. That was what met the overzealous enemies of the Children of Israel. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
Exodus 14:23 AFV
[23] And the Egyptians pursued and went in after them to the middle of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
Blind Ambush
Those Egyptians hadn’t worked it out fully. Because they’d successfully dominated the Hebrews for so long (400+ years), they assumed that the Children of Israel were spiritual orphans. So even when God’s Spirit created a wall between them and the Hebrews, they did not attempt to assess the situation. That was to their detriment.
Point to Ponder
Can you see them pursuing the Children of Israel, losing sight of them, hearing their movements, then seeing both sides of the waters become a wall?
Application
The Egyptians couldn’t have planned a better ambush… those Hebrews were trapped. They had nowhere else to go.
How they must have been shocked to see the sea split. But even that would seem to be in their favour.
I suspect they doubled their efforts to overtake the Hebrews. They knew they had the advantage of chariots and horsemen. Those Hebrews were on foot.
What they had forgotten was the 10 plague warning, they’d received from God. They were only able to see livestock and property disappearing.
Their forgetfulness landed them nearly into the ambush set for them. In their haste to retrieve those they thought were rightfully theirs, in their hatred, they didn’t take stock of what they were doing. The entire battalion rode into what should have been the sea. No one thought it could have been a trap.
They had been ambushed by their greed, and YHWH allowed them to pursue their heinous plot.
Siblings, even when it seems impossible; when it seems that the enemy has us at a disadvantage; let’s keep the praise rolling off our lips, for the ambush being set for us might be the halos on which our enemies will perish.
Prayer Point
Lord, when the enemy is blinded by hatred for us, preparing to ambush us, help us to see You, our banner and rearguard, working for our salvation.
Stand still, fear not. Let the praises ring.
