Couldn’t Jesus have simply responded to the question hewas asked without adding the extra dimension? After all, if he had just stopped at loving God, We’d have struggled for a bit, but eventually we would find a way through the heart, soul, and strength. But it’s not as simple for us to love others to the degree we experience self love.
How do we respond to this command? Are we even able to let go and love ourselves, so that our love becomes THE standard for loving relationships?
The fact is, for many of us, loving ourselves is hard. But if we were to remind ourselves that we are individual masterpieces, then we just may be able to love us, warts and all. I love you, God loves you more.
