Nougat 20

Despite being down the road of God’s Grace many a time; today’s Holy Nougat continues to amaze me.

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!” Psalms‬ ‭32:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Isn’t that the truth!

The relief of knowing that the anticipated punishment is no longer an issue – not much can beat that.

Of course, in the first instance that requires us to acknowledge our sin and seek to do something about it. And not all of us are in that place. Some of us are the nicest people in the world, until someone starts mentioning our faults. At that point, the true self is revealed. Others of us can’t see evil within; although we’re quick to notice and advertise another’s. This particular trait sometimes creates tension between us and others who really are not keen on having our flaws broadcast to us on a regular basis.

Let us revert to the illustration of The Fall referenced yesterday in the nougat, from Genesis 3. We may recall that after Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit; they became aware of their nakedness. It may well be that they were always naked: but for sure they only gained awareness after they sinned. For me this warns that sin or disobedience uncovers us and renders us vulnerable.

Upon discovery of their nakedness, this first couple did NOT agree to take responsibility for their actions. Rather they sought to cover up. Then, as time drew nigh for them to be intentionally in God’s presence; they hid. Then they tried to pass it off as another’s responsibility and actions. As stated previously, this is such a typical reaction for most of us.

It is worth noting however; God’s response. God honored their appointment and came to meet them Despite God’s awareness of their actions. Further, God offered them the opportunity to own up to their actions. And, although Adam and Eve faced ‘judgement’ and were punished, God ALSO offered them more permanent cover for their nakedness!

That’s what God still does for each of us today and always. Although our sins hurt God, God still honors the blessings and promises offered to us on a daily basis. God still seeks to meet with us in the cool of the day. And while our sin may convict us, God also desires that we take responsibility by confessing to God. For it is in the moment that we acknowledge our sin that the Blood Covering for our nakedness is revealed. By the shed Blood of Jesus our vulnerability is removed and we are restored to wholeness as Children of God!

The weight and the shame are lifted. Oh what joy!
