Nougat 20

As Berean-minded believers, we scour God’s Word to confirm the truth of what we experience, hear and see; even if it’s not prophetic. Today’s Holy Nougat offers direction,

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The preaching was impactful; lives were being transformed, the church was growing. All manner of people left their old beliefs to sign up for the love of Jesus. Among them, was a man who used to dabble in the occult. Impressed by what he saw, he determined to get to the source so that he could access the power directly. Good plan, except his motives were questionable. God’s Spirit was not pleased, for the desire was impure.

We read the fuller story in Acts, and it gets dismissed as old time things. Yet, we not only learn from the stories and seek to avoid similar mistakes. We also see the same thing happening in our contexts. On reflection we learn that some who are operating in the prophetic are neither pure, true nor honorable. Hence our admiration might be misplaced.

We look for visions and seek signs, but we are sometimes blinded by others. Let’s ensure that our choices are aligned with God’s.
