It may be one of those ‘diamond’ days, and you seriously are questioning God’s presence or ability to really see you. If so, grab something to drink, and join me in reading today’s Holy Nougat
“When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”” Luke 19:5 NLT
It defies logic. How could Jesus have known where he was? Sometimes it seems as if one of the disciples had seen Zacchaeus go up in the tree and told Jesus. That’s highly unlikely as they were generally fiercely protective of Jesus, they would not really seek to include Zach just so. Moreover, Zach was a tax collector – no one’s idea of honored guest! No one really planned to stay with him. That was social suicide! But Jesus saw Zacchaeus and wanted to be with him.
The reality about Zacchaeus is this – Jesus knew Who he was, Where he was and What he was. Jesus also knew Why he was up in the tree. But best of all, Jesus also knew How he, Zacchaeus, was going to react When Jesus invited him down from the tree!
The thing I love about this, is what it tells Us about Our situation with Christ. For the mathematical laws of transposition of variables – ie ‘finding X’ (or ‘N’ or …) very much apply in this case. That is, the Jesus who knew The Who, Where, What, Why, When and How about Zacchaeus very much knows The Who, Where, What, Why, When and How about each of us! I know, sometimes it boggles the mind and may be weird; but it’s also an assurance that God’s got us, and seriously has our best interests at heart.
So when the Zacchaeuses are trying to gouge our eyes out with extortion or such, God sees and (actually) has a plan. When we are Zacchaeus, and our consciences finally prick us for the wrongs, God sees and has a plan. When we’re overwhelmed by life’s injustices, God sees and has a plan.
Could it be time to pray (again) and trust that God’s got a plan?
