Hello
How’s our giving been lately? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:13 NLT
Guilty.
I am not always eager to be hospitable. Nope. Not always. But there are others for whom hospitality is second nature. They live for helping others, even when they are the guests. And far too often, we take such people for granted.
Yup.
We assume that because giving is their gift, that they don’t ever have needs. We often forget to enquire of their well-being and celebrate their selflessness. So much so, that we encourage them to be one-dimensional with generosity. They give; but have a hard time to accept the same from others.
The truth is, several of us are so caught up with life that we fail to see the needs around us. And our society often suggests (indirectly at times) that giving is wrong if not accompanied by ‘the bottom line’ – material gain, social or political mileage or (the potential to experience) a return of the favor in the future.
But we have been created for more. We are called to bless others from the abundance of our blessings. There are those of us who are challenged to realize how blessed we are; or who force the recipient to be obliged to ask us for what they need. At times, it is blessed however, to secretly give. To meet a need in secret with no one the wiser.
And remember, giving is not always about the material. It can include our talents (like completing forms) or a listening ear, a word of encouragement/prayer, or a healing action. In short, we each can help someone in need (even if it’s about sourcing solutions for another).
Perhaps today is a great day to practice our giving. Enjoy
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
