Hi
Have you ever read God’s Word and found that it didn’t sit as comfortably as it ought? Unfortunately, many of us find ourselves in that space at some point in our Christian walk.
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
Do everything without complaining or arguing … Philippians 2:14 NIV
Now that’s a hard call. Could we ignore the word WITHOUT and move on to complaining? Because there are times when it sincerely feels that our lot is unfair and so we’d be just a little bit justified in complaining, especially if we can find one, just One sympathiser. But that’s not part of the equation. Now we may need to revise our responses when we are overlooked, underappreciated, abused. Ouch
But we’re also obliged to avoid arguments. That’s a very tall order for those of us headstrong ones. In fact, that could present a serious challenge to our self understanding if we’ve begin to define ourselves by our ability to stand up for ourselves or our ‘negotiating’ skills. And yet, that’s not How God defines us is it?
So time to revisit how we do what we do. For in doing the do, God expects us to BE. To Be focused on the One for whom we are actually working. To Be the examples to the unbelieving watching world which gets their cues on coping from our responses in rough spots.
So let’s get to doing. And rather than doing Nothing, rather than Arguing, rather than Complaining, let us allow God to Be … in us.
In Christ’s love and grace
