Hi
Many of us are commitment-phobes in many aspects of our lives. We might even have valid reasons. More critically, we are not very willing to hand control of our lives to any ole soul. Experience has taught us to be cautious – there are scammers out there. But what about giving control to God? Do we have those challenges? Let’s consider today’s Holy Nougat
“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” Psalms 37:5 NLT
The joy of handing over. But not to any ole soul. We hand over control to the One Who is able to Keep us and make sense of what we wish to do. Of course, we don’t normally give control to any ole soul (right? Right); we usually (sub)consciously put the person to the test or rely on what their reputation suggests about their character.
So
We’re handing control of our lives to this God-character; yes? (I am Not being sacrilegious, bear with me). Do we KNOW God personally? If yes, what do we know about God and would we be willing to write a character reference for God? Can God be trusted – with what? Is God reliable? Is God capable? Have we personally given God serious matters to take care of in the past? Did God (get a chance to) do a good job? What concerns do we have about God’s gifts and abilities? Based on our actions and responses, can we honestly recommend God to ourselves AND other for the task of managing our lives?
Please note – our daily faith journey offers those answers and more to others, whether we realize it or not.
If we don’t know God personally, can we pinpoint a particular reason why not? Have we done a market survey or tried qualitative research to determine whether God is worth knowing? What key attributes should our ideal ‘god’ possess? Does this God meet market standards? Based on our research, can we see the difference in those who claim closeness with God? Does God’s prospectus/resume offer a clear picture of God’s character, capabilities and even experience? Do we know any of the references to do our own investigation? What are the results of our client satisfaction survey? Is it time for a trial run to see whether God is up to the task? For if it is, then truly; we only need to ask for help.
This may seem frivolous or cold and impersonal approach to committing our plans to God to some. However, should we truly work through ALL the questions; we might discern the ways in which we can overcome our fear of trusting God. It might not be overnight, but God’s ways are guaranteed; whether we understand, approve or appreciate them.
Forgive our unbelief and rescue us from ourselves we pray please Y’shua amen
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
