Hi

Please be reminded that as of tomorrow, we will be offline for a bit as I reflect on the way forward.

Here’s your Holy Nougat™ for Today

Let not kindness and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart: Proverbs 3:3 ASV

Once in Israel’s tradition, it was appropriate to tie important scriptures unto one’s forehead, hands and feet (see Deuteronomy 6.5-8; Exodus 12.14, 13.6-9). This was to indicate total devotion to the Law and its contents. And we might recall Psalm 119.11 speaks to the value of God’s word being placed in heart storage for sin reduction.

It stands to reason then, that the writer is emphasising the importance of kindness and truth for improving one’s spiritual welfare. S/he suggests that it not only enhances ones beauty (jewelry usually adorns one’s neck), but should also be readily available for use and easy reference by the wearer.

How might we adorn our lives with kindness and truth in the face of political shenanigans which suggest that dishonesty is okay?

In the face of wars and rumours of wars destroying nations and making refugees of Africans and Middle eastern peoples?

In the face of earthquakes and other natural disasters rolling across Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and the Americas?

In the light of Jesus’ decree that loving or neighbour is the second greatest commandment?

Lord, as we re-clothe our spirits with your love, please adorn us with your kindness and truth! In Jesus’ name, amen.

In Christ’s love and grace
