And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus. Mt 14:12
Recently beheadings have become de riguer for the extremist religious group ISIS. Despite the logic which governs their choice of execution, we know it is not new and it triggers similar sentiment in the hearts of survivors.
Before we ask, “why does God allow this” (and I have no idea why), Let usconsider what our response may be.
Jesus withdrew to a desolate place. There he mourned in private, but shortly after, miraculously fed the multitude; body, mind and spirit.
Sounds to me that we overcome the evil with good, despite the urge to retaliate in kind.
Let us recognize that those who maim and threaten and kill are unable to feel the live of God during in them. They are operating outside of God’s Spirit and God’s divine will.
We pray for their repentance, but even more
We lift up the families of those who have been persecuted. We invite God’s healing grace. We ask God to direct us to helpful support for the grieving families. We grieve and mourn and retaliate with perhaps as very public act of godly kindness.
Lord in your mercy, help us Love as agents of positive transformation in the face of the evil all around us.
