Did you grow up with stories such as “The Little Engine that Could”? It’s a classic children’s tale about determination and overcoming fear, which may have been lost on many a child. So now that we’ve matured past the memories of the Little Engine, what?
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
In many instances, fear and timidity result from past, painful, perhaps personal experience. Or, we heard the impact of what happened to others, or calculated the risk and derived the same conclusion – an inability to finish.
While we know that Perfect Love drives out fear, while we KNOW that fear and timidity are not of God, letting go (sometimes even after relentless prayer and fasting) is far easier said than done, way easier.
Interestingly, the stories of several of our heroes and heroines of biblical Fame mention moments of fear/uncertainty. A reminder that God is acquainted with all kinds … Gideon’s cowardice each time God commandeered him to an assignment (Judges 6 -, Joshua, Peter, and several others.
But each of those overcame their fear when they began to focus on God. And others who blazed the trail for us and others found the strength to overcome when desperation helped them move past the potential “What Ifs”; into “With God’s …”
Are we desperate enough, can we migrate past “what if”, “I remember”, and “Remember what happened to…”; into With You Lord? It’s not always easy; but if we think carefully enough, our ‘rememberers’ might remember that God’s brought us through in the past. And if we can remember, then Power to overcome is ours. If we can remember, our minds just might find release so we could live again. If we can remember, we just might trust God one more time.
Almighty God
You know our fears and even why we have them. Please reprogramme our Rememberers so we find Your Power to do and be … For Love’s sake and Your glory.
