Today’s Holy Nougat™️ calls for slow chewing on righteous indignation.

“Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he became very angry.” 1 Samuel 11:6 NLT

I tell you, righteous indignation is a serious witness. This involves our being upset on God’s behalf AND taking action. It also includes the above mentioned scenario where, by God’s Spirit we are mobilized to right a wrong done to someone else. It may be a believer, it can also be someone placed on the margins whose rights have been denied.

We recognize that this is not just selfish anger. Rather, God’s Spirit is actively involved in the process, and our actions are then aligned to God’s plans . Further, it presupposes an intimacy with God that allows us to respond to God’s directives.

This begs the questions

Are we attuned to God’s Spirit

What offends the Spirit of God

What to do with this anger in our current context

  • Are we attuned

Anyone and anything can become an instrument for God’s glory. There is no need for a positive relationship. However, having an intimate relationship with God ensures we are familiar with what pleases God. It also means that God’s priorities become our own, thus keeping us from becoming subject to others’ priorities. When we are attuned, we hear and act.

  • Offending God’s Spirit

The first and only unforgivable offense to God’s Spirit is blasphemy. Denying and even cursing God’s Spirit. Now many do not believe in God, that’s not blasphemy. That’s bring stupid. But consciously and deliberately cursing and opposing the person of God’s Spirit.

We know however that God’s Spirit is offended by sin. Ours as well as others. The thing is, when we constantly go against God’s will, we run the risk of losing intimacy. So we guard against offense by spending time with God.

  • Response to God’s anger

Assuming that the anger is not directed at us, then we ought to invite others to undo the mess us humans made . Again, it requires that we are attuned to God’s Spirit to discern how we ought to respond. Remember, we are NOT operating in our Flesh Nature, but like (King) Saul we are operating under God’s anointing. I included the distinction of ‘king’; for there was another Saul who was offended on God’s behalf. However that Saul was not attuned to God’s Spirit and so his response was actually outside of God’s will.

Let us pray 🙏🏾

So Almighty God, Elohim we come to you today inviting You to infuse us with the desire for intimacy with You. We pray that we would see the world as You do and that, under Your anointing, respond accordingly. Holy God, we recognize that we don’t always live according to Your Word and we confess stubbornness to You and Your purpose. Please forgive us dear Jesus. Order our steps and breathe anew upon us we pray, for in You there’s Life and abundance. This is our prayer in Jesus name amen.
