Nougat 19

As God’s people, as the living temple of our Living God, what shall we do? How shall we live? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Some time ago I shared details about the place called ‘Jonction’, in Geneva. It’s the point where two rivers meet. The Arve is fed by mountains, but the Rhône is fed by Lake Geneva and both rivers reflect their origins.

At Jonction, the two rivers dance daintily side by side but never really merging for about a mile thereabouts. I’m always filled with awe when I visit. For, what strikes me is the fact that a. the waters don’t run backwards b. the waters retain their distinct identities until the Arve becomes part of the Rhône.

Saints – in the face of danger, dis-ease, disappointment and disease, we cannot lose sight of God and God’s purpose. Not even for a moment. For if we can be changed to immortality in the twinkling of an eye, rest assured that God can turn things around just as quickly. We can’t lose momentum simply because trials or testings come our way. Like the Rhône, we press on, persevering.

Now I would have expected the Arve to dominate the Rhône when they eventually joined. But it doesn’t. It is the Rhône that takes over. And so it ought to be with us – we mustn’t allow bad stuff or even sin to overwhelm us. Yes, sin happens. Yes, Life happens. But our God remains faithful to the end, so we can seek God’s forgiveness and revert to God’s purpose – for our bodies house the Holiest One, Whose name is above all other.

Remember, there’s no place for a union between God’s temple and idols. One has to go. For a while this may happen – just like the Arve and the Rhône. Ultimately we must choose. I pray our choice remains with God.
