When we’re preempted, it may be our reputation that precedes us, or God’s will being fulfilled. But what happens when it seems to go against our will for our own lives? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat™️

“He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭6‬:‭31‬, ‭33‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Discerning God’s Will

I don’t doubt Jesus’ sincerity when He proposed that the disciples disappear for a moment to recharge. It was His way of being – ever heard of the ‘Nap Ministry’? Jesus so originated it. Whether it was sleeping in the middle of a storm while at sea, or finding a spot to check in with God. Yet, here it is, these disciples went as directed, and found the crowd awaiting them. What were they to do?

The natural tendency is to lay the ground rules to those folks (once again). And it would be only right for the aim was rest, not ministry. In our own lives, we might need to establish our boundaries, which may include saying no to those who come in search of favour. Even in such cases, I propose we seek God’s face first, lest we miss our blessings.

I also urge us, myself included, to also develop a rhythm of prayer and praise with a nap or two included in our schedule. In so doing, we are ensuring that we honor our relationship with Jesus above all else. God desires to have a deep and abiding relationship with each of us, which can be nurtured through the quick check in prayers as well as personal quiet time.

God was already aware that they would get to the quiet place first, because they were hungry for the Word, and for transformation. While we are startled by the crowd, God has a plan, which we can only discern through prayer. This ongoing relationship is what strengthens us for the journey in such situations. It helps us approach God in our ‘and suddenly’ moments in life.

Siblings in Christ, I pray that we continue to build on our relationship with Jesus, so that when the multitude appears, we’re already attuned to God’s plan for us.

May all we seek be found in Christ
