Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!” John 13:9 NLT
One thing’s for certain about our brother Peter; he did nothing in half measures. Oh no. So upon thinking about Jesus’ status; Peter initially insisted that the disciples should not relegate Jesus to servant-hood. And had there not been a deeper meaning to Jesus’ act, we perhaps would have commended Peter for his respectful attitude to his boss. However, when Jesus clarifies the importance of having his feet washed by Jesus, Peter emphatically declares his allegiance by saying, wash ALL of me! Again, his response is just a tad exaggerated, but it certainly reveals his dedication to Jesus.
What if Jesus was offering to wash our feet today? What would our response be? Without knowing that the singular act of Jesus’ foot-washing is sufficient to keep us connected to God, would we also declare, “Not only my feet, but my entire being”? How much are we willing to commit for the sake of being yoked to Christ?
