Hello howdy do
I love this time of the year. Seriously. Perhaps it’s the fact that life takes on a slower pace and the frenetic rush to do often gets replaced by the chance to simply be. This is often a time of reflection, introspection even. And occasionally, I find myself wondering about call and purpose – what am I called to do and be, and am I fulfilling God’s purpose in my life. How about you? A bit so subtle hint as we ruminate on today’s Holy Nougat™
“Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. Exodus 31:2-3 NLT
How about rereading this verse and inserting your own name and even one gift or skill which God has blessed you with? How would it impact you then? Would you be scared to know that God has been exceptionally intentional in calling YOU to complete a particular task? Or would you be so elated? Would you use this recommendation to help others KNOW just how important or valuable you are? Hmmmn
And what about your response to discovery that God’s Spirit has blessed you with all the gifts and skills you possess – WOW! Almost mind-blowing. Definitely inviting me to return to the mirror, but looking through God’s lens rather than my own.
For certain, this is a reminder that I’ve got purpose and value, regardless what MY mind or others may suggest when I’m failing at a task. More importantly, it is a reminder that God has a specific task for me, and I ought to be focused on God’s purposes and not my own.
While preparing this, I find myself thinking about YOUR purpose and recognise that inasmuch as God has specifically gifted ME, I’m invited to recognize and celebrate God’s gift in YOU You’re awesome, and don’t you ever forget it.
I pray that as the commercialism of the season continues, we will instead focus on Christ’s recognition of HIS Purpose – to be born, to die and be raised from death back to life, so we might live – and be freed to be the Who God has called us to BE.
